We map how far the water traveled, check materials that hide moisture such as subfloor, insulation, and the bottom of drywall, and record starting moisture levels so progress can be measured against something.
Standing water comes out first, then air movers and dehumidifiers run against the readings. Materials that cannot be dried in place, or that were contaminated, are removed rather than sealed over.
Readings continue until the structure holds steady at a dry standard. You get the record of what was found, what was removed, and what still needs a repair trade, which is what an owner or adjuster will ask for.
